How Long Should You Wait After Filling a New Pod?
Filling a new pod only takes a few seconds, but it's worth waiting before taking your first puff. A fresh pod or coil needs time for the e-liquid to fully saturate the wick. Vaping too soon can cause a burnt taste, dry hits and reduced coil life.
How Long Should You Wait?
For most modern pod systems, wait around 5 minutes after filling a completely new pod.
- Small MTL pods: Around 5 minutes
- Larger mesh pods: 5–10 minutes
- Thicker e-liquids: May need additional time
- Fresh tank coils: Around 5–10 minutes
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions if they recommend a different priming time.
How to Prime a New Pod
- Fill the pod without exceeding the maximum level.
- Close the filling port securely.
- Leave it standing for around 5 minutes.
- Take a few gentle puffs to start.
- If adjustable, begin at the lower end of the recommended wattage range.
What Happens If You Vape Too Soon?
If the wick hasn't absorbed enough e-liquid, you may experience:
- Burnt or dry taste
- Harsh throat hit
- Reduced vapour
- Shorter coil life
If the first puff tastes burnt, stop vaping and allow more time for the pod to saturate. If the wick has already been scorched, waiting longer may not repair it.
Do You Need to Wait After Every Refill?
No. The waiting period is mainly important for a new pod or coil. Once the pod is already saturated, you can normally continue vaping after refilling, provided you don't let it run dry.
The 5-Minute Rule
If you're unsure how long to wait, 5 minutes is a good starting point for most new pods. For larger coils, sub-ohm setups or thicker e-liquids, 5–10 minutes is a safer approach.
The goal isn't simply to wait for a specific number of minutes—it's to make sure the wick is properly saturated before you vape.
